A native of the Chicago area, Mr. Callahan attended Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, CA. While earning his Bachelor’s degree in Economics and minoring in Business, Jim worked for Dean Witter Reynolds, a full service brokerage firm. It was this experience that led Jim to focus his career on investments and wealth management. Upon graduation, Jim joined Wells Fargo Bank’s mutual fund servicing group, earning his NASD Series 7, 6, and 63 licenses. After a year, Jim moved into Wells Fargo’s Private Bank, working with high net worth families and foundations. Over the following 5 years, Jim advanced to the position of Assistant Vice President and Portfolio Manager, managing over $400 million in discretionary portfolios for private clients.

Although working with individual clients and families in managing their investments was rewarding, Jim’s interest in investment research escalated, particularly after earning his CFA charter in 2001. To further a career in research, Jim pursued his MBA at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. Upon graduating in 2003, Jim was offered an Equity Analyst position with Morningstar in Chicago, where he followed financial services companies. In 2006, Jim moved to Raleigh, NC, to join BB&T Bank’s Asset Management Group (now called Sterling Asset Management) in managing $1.4 billion in domestic equity funds.

Despite the rewards and challenges of equity research, Jim couldn’t deny the fact that he missed the opportunity of developing relationships and working with individual investors. With that, Jim returned to the private wealth side of the business, bringing 7 years of institutional analysis and research to the high net worth clients of Janiczek & Company. Additionally, in moving to Denver, Jim and his family were able to be closer to family, too. Jim now enjoys his new Colorado lifestyle (which includes skiing and training for marathons) with his wife, two young children, and 5-year old black Labrador.
